A moment in nature helps soothe the soul

My Story

My passions from a young age have included caring for people, singing and music, along with a lust for life and a good giggle. After many years of working as a care assistant in and around Torbay, I decided to undertake my nursing training in Bristol. I qualified as a nurse (RGN) in 2009. My nursing role, after a spell working in the hospital environment, has seen me care for the elderly and people with dementia within the nursing home sector. I have also looked after those with learning disabilities and profound sensory impairments, acquired brain injuries and a variety of neurological disorders, and more recently palliative care, hospice work and home care.

In 2010 I became unwell both emotionally and physically. In order to get well I started looking at my health and wellbeing more holistically. I changed my diet and did a three month detox. I started practising Yoga and I learnt Reiki. I began to wonder how I could link up my passion for caring and my love of singing and music, to make my work more fulfilling and in alignment with my core values. I decided that I would save up, and take some time out travelling.

In 2012 I set out on a round the world trip, and was away for two and a half years. I worked as a volunteer in Cambodia at a school for disadvantaged children. I also spent some time at a Buddhist centre in India as a volunteer caring for the elderly. Whilst in Australia I worked with people of Aboriginal origin who were experiencing drug and alcohol addiction. These experiences were invaluable and for which I am truly grateful.

Towards the end of my trip I took part in a cacao (raw chocolate) ceremony in Guatemala, asking for guidance about what to do on my return home. The person leading the ceremony was a Sound Healer, something I had not come across before. The message that came through to me loud and clear was that I needed to train as a Sound Healer once back in the UK.

I returned to working as a nurse once back home. In 2016 I began volunteering with the Alzheimer's Society, with Singing for The Brain in South Bristol. This was great fun, I really enjoyed it! In the summer of that same year I started my Sound Healer Practitioner training with the College of Sound Healing near Cheltenham.

Towards the end of the course in the following spring, I was explaining to my teacher that I would like to be able to share my new skills with people coming to the end of life. He encouraged me with this idea and told me that there were Sound Healers already working in some hospices and care settings. I longed so much for a change in my work.

As if by magic the very next day, I received a telephone call about some private work on Dartmoor, as a live-in nurse for a lady who was approaching the end of her life. To put it mildly I was stunned!

After a couple of delightful conversations over the telephone I met with the lady the following week, and then went on to become her live-in nurse/carer for the next two and a half months until she peacefully passed away at home. She was very keen on holistic health, and let me practice Sound Healing and Reiki with her. She found both of these therapies very beneficial and soothing. I embraced being able to work one-to-one with someone in the comfort of their home very much. This experience changed my outlook, it gave me a new direction and a path to follow.

In 2018 I completed a course in Soul Midwifery in Dorset, which encompasses holistic and spiritual end of life care, to bring love and dignity to the dying. I left Bristol at the end of 2018 to return to South Devon, and by the following summer I was working part time as a Soul Midwife and nurse in a local care home, using my Sound Healing and Reiki.

SarahSoulCare was launched in September of 2020, and both Sound Healing and Reiki are offered from my home address, and Reiki can be given as a distant healing. A home visit can be arranged if preferred.

I hold a monthly women’s healing sound bath & also a mixed session at Church House, Abbotskerswell. Private sound baths can also be arranged, where all are welcome.

In April 2024 I gained a distinction in Reflexology with the Devon School of Reflexology, and I am a member of The Association of Reflexologists (M.A.R).

I offer unique tailored loving care and support to people within their own homes, at a competitive rate. Whether you are seeking some simple help at home and companionship or a kind empathetic ear, or are needing assistance with personal care, I can facilitate this in a professional and holistic manner. I can also provide support with a terminal diagnosis or at end of life giving respite for family members.

I have a wealth of experience of the medical model of health and care complemented with my Holistic therapies, and a kind sensitive demeanour and fun sense of humour to share.
